When hiking Mt. Kenya, you will arrive at the summit at sunrise because you start out from the base camp at about 2 am the same morning.

There are seven unique climatic zones on Mt. Kenya which has produced some very interesting plant life. The plant pictured here has a tiny purple flower in every small opening. This picture was taken on the Sirimon Route out of Nanyuki.

This picture shows how Mt. Kenya used to be quite a bit larger than it is now. The original cone was ripped away by glaciers leaving only the 'plug' as the peaks. The plug was magma that hardened slowly in the vent and formed very hard rock which was resistant to the wear of the glaciers. As you can see from the width of the base, Mt. Kenya may well have been larger than Mt. Kilimanjaro at one time.
