When I hiked Mount Longonot and was most impressed by how I was able to hike right to the edge of the cone. The cone is also very distinct, it's not so big that you can't take it in all at once. You can also see a smaller cone on the side of the volcano with what looks like a very distinct lava flow that has been overgrown with lush vegetation.
You can hike Mount Longonot in one day even though the elevation is 2,776 meters (9,108 feet). The reason this is possible is because the elevation of the Great Rift Valley on which the mountain sits is at a an elevation of approximately 1,890 meters or 5900 ft.
The volcanic soil on the trail is quite interesting in that it is so powdery that it puffs out from beneath your foot with each step you take. I would highly recommend a hike on Mount Longonot.
